About The Blog
Hi, we’re Alex and Amy Moore (very generic American names, we know), and this blog was started to chronicle our journey with Brain Cancer. On July 25, 2011 Alex suffered a Gran Mal seizure, and quickly learned that he had a tumor the size of a golf ball on his right frontal lobe. He had surgery and was diagnosed with Stage 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma (not good). Then, after what can only be called a divine turn of events, we discovered that there was still approximately 50 % of the tumor left (after being told that they got it all) and Alex was asked to once again go under the knife (this time with a different and better team of doctors). With the second surgery only a month later, Alex was able to get the remaining tumor completely extracted which was diagnosed as stage 2 Mixed Glioma making the official diagnosis Mixed Oligoastrocytoma, which was a much better diagnosis than before. Either way, Brain Cancer is still a chronic and most likely terminal illness for Alex until progress is made with treatments etc. We originally started this blog thinking that only our friends and family would read it, but it has reached a far greater audience than we ever thought possible as Alex has quickly become a leading voice within the Brain Cancer Community to help advocate and inspire a way to getting us to that all important cure (or better treatments to keep it at bay). We are truly humbled by the way that our journey has inspired and encouraged so many, especially those of you that have had to adjust to a “new normal” like us.
Much Love,
Alex and Amy
Our prayers are with you every step of this journey. Much love to you both.
The Gaffneys will be praying for you. Much love. Gaff
Gaff – Good to hear from you. You have been a very important and influential teacher in my life (and I know I’m not alone). Thank you so much for your prayers and I look forward to speaking at a Younglife event in the future about God’s power and faithfulness ; )

Alex,
Praying for you and your family.
I love the blog and all the pictures! Thank you so much for helping us feel included. We are praying and concerned and would like to know how you are all doing every day! Praise God for the Christian doctor! There’s answered prayer! Stage 2, Yippee! Have a good night and know the power of united prayer is amazing.
I love you god bless you
Good luck
Amy, I kept thinking about you guys & Rebecca the last week and felt like I should get on FB to see what you are up to and am so thankful that now I know how I can be praying. I’ll be keeping up to see how things are going. I still remember when I came and visited you way back in 2005 and thinking that you & Alex would end up being together! Love you guys.
Hi Alex, I am a close friend of your Mom. We grew up together in Jersey City and have known each other since the age of seven. I am still in New Jersey, but because of my trips to see your Mom and hike and travel together, I have grown to appreciate the great state of Washington. The natural parks there have given me spiritual states of awareness of the beauty of Washington. I am praying for you every night that both the treatment and your doctors will get you on the road to recovery so you can enjoy scenic Washington with the same joy that I have. All your Mom’s friends appreciate everyone’s efforts in making this blog possible. It is a very giving thing to do. May the Lord be with you and Amy on your journey. Carolyn Schmidt

Hi Amy and Alex. Am so glad we stumbled across this blog on FB. Amy, I can’t believe how long it has been since we have seen you and your family! I recently got in touch with your mom, and Charlie keeps in touch with your dad every so often. I still have your engagement magnet on my fridge! Chuckie still remembers you all…and we love you guys so much, and miss all our good times! I will never forget your 16th birthday! It was on of the funniest nights ever! Chicago Bob and his dancing made the whole night. You probably didn’t think it was funny, though. Do you guys still have the video? Anyway…my heart is heavy for you two that you are going through this rough trial. We are praying for you guys….Christ is our all, and we must not lose sight of that! If you guys ever want to come to Kauai…you always have a place to stay! Can’t wait to meet your amazing husband, Amy!! Love you to pieces!! Fox fam.
Love and light in your “new normal” journey!!
